Description

In this session, we'll explore how to use ChatGPT and other generative AI tools to assist in the process of crafting an API call. From researching data sources and coming up with the query that you need to create to extract data from an API, to writing the code that you need to request the data, and beyond, generative AI can speed up your process and lighten the load it takes to get the job done. We'll also talk about foundational topics in this area like how data professionals might interact with APIs, and ways to use generative AI responsibly and ethically.

In this tutorial, we'll use Large Language Model ChatGPT to write code which will retrieve data from an API. We'll explore how we can combine the tools of LLMs and APIs to create a personal data visualization project in a safe, non-production environment. Learners will use Python to query an open API of music lyrics and generate a dataset of their favorite songs, and then they'll create a WordCloud with the dataset. No experience with coding is necessary, but a computer and personal Google account credentials will be required to complete the tutorial.
