Description

Geospatial analysis can be challenging and time-consuming – from preparing data of different shapes, forms, and sizes, to processing and visualizing large datasets at scale. In recent years, geospatial visualization has increasingly shifted from legacy GIS tools to web-based systems leveraging WebGL and other modern browser-based technologies to enable fast exploratory data analysis for a broader audience. In this talk, I will present an overview of different  geospatial visualization approaches and techniques in order to show how location data analysis and visualization offers us a new set of lenses to understand mobility, transit, population, infrastructure, land use data at scale, and through time. I will demo using Foursquare Studio - an advanced geospatial analytics and visualization tool built on top of open source frameworks - to perform spatial analysis using a variety of geospatial datasets including census population, satellite imagery and Foursquare’s foot traffic data.
